Why Ready. Set. Flow exists.
A comprehensive care center for bleeding and thrombotic disorders, founded in 1982 and based at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
Our why
The Ready. Set. Flow website was created to help people learn about periods. Many people have severe problems from having heavy periods and many need to be hospitalized due to the amount of blood that is lost. A lot of times, this is because they don’t know that they have a problem and think it is normal to bleed a lot. It is very important to know what is an abnormal period to prevent severe problems from occurring.
Our Flow clinic
Dr. Meera Chitlur is the director of the Jeanne M. Lusher Center for Hemostasis and Thrombosis. Due to the many patients that came into the clinic with heavy bleeding during their periods, she started the Flow clinic to help discover why it was happening. Instead of having multiple appointments, during a Flow clinic appointment patients are able to see a doctor that specializes in bleeding (hematologist) with a doctor who specializes in periods (adolescent medicine or gynecology). These appointments are held two to three times a month and are called the Flow clinic.
Our mission
It is the mission of the Jeanne M. Lusher Center for Hemostasis and Thrombosis to facilitate early recognition and accurate diagnosis of bleeding disorders; to provide quality, specialized care to patients diagnosed with bleeding and thrombotic disorders; and to assure that each patient and patient’s family is equipped with the knowledge of their diagnosis to facilitate self-advocacy, recognition of complications and maintenance of overall good health.

Our center
The Jeanne M. Lusher Center for Hemostasis and Thrombosis is a non-profit organization focused on providing quality care for the bleeding disorder community and patients diagnosed with, or at high risk for, thrombosis. As part of the Department of Health and Human Services’ 340B program, we are able to provide factor products to our patients at a reduced cost while providing additional resources to care for patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders.
Founded in 1982 by Dr. Jeanne M. Lusher, a pioneer of comprehensive care for patients with bleeding disorders, the center’s doctors and staff strive to continue her legacy of improving hemostasis and thrombosis treatment, and therefore quality of life.
The center’s director, Dr. Meera Chitlur, is dedicated to reaching into the community to provide education to adolescents about prolonged and heavy menstrual bleeding. That dedication led to the development of Flow Outreach, which has resulted in a partnership with Detroit Public Schools to bring the program to adolescents within the school system.
